Pre-season Thoughts for Women’s Lacrosse

lax goal

Only graduating 4 seniors last May, the Nazareth Women’s Lacrosse team of 2017 welcomes in twelve new members to the squad. Also losing a member of the coaching staff, Kim Masterton, the Flyers have added a new graduate assistant to the staff, Carly Gates. Gates, a recent graduate of Nazareth herself and alum to the team, is going to help the Golden Flyers out immensely. Returning to the coaching staff is head coach, Traci Lian and assistant coach Rachel Schneeberger.

The team has a lot going for them as they return with a senior class of six. Kate Rothrock , Jamie Martin , Nicole DeVona, Gabbie Charles, Andrea Stekl, and then Leah Marvin returning from injury, will lead the team to a successful season. The best thing about this senior class is the close bonds they have. They started together and are ready to finish together as they take on their last season. With that, returning is the leading scorer for past two years, Haley DeVona. Brianna Rizzari, an extremely key player to the flyers in 2016, will also be back for her second season in goal.

The Flyers are set for a tough schedule as they start off with three great games against Fredonia, Brockport and William Smith before they head down to Florida for spring break. However, it’s not all fun in the sun for the girls down in Florida. They spend the week practicing and playing two games and focusing on quality team bonding.

Pre-season practice will begin for the Flyers quickly after winter break, on January 23rd. They will practice right up until the first game. They then will open up their season with an away game to Fredonia on March 3.
