5 Tips to Help You Balance a Job and College
If you have decided to pursue a part-time job while in college here are some tips to make sure you are best prepared:
Get a second opinion
If you are trying to decide whether or not a part-time job is the best decision for you, it might be worth getting a second opinion. Ask a friend or family member if it is a smart idea and get their advice. It can’t hurt to get a few extra tips from people who have had experience balancing a job and school.
Find a flexible job
Try to find a job that can work around your school schedule. Your employer will be understanding and try to make sure that you don’t bite off more than you can chew. Just discuss your schedule with your employer, so that way you are not overwhelmed with the amount of hours they give you.
Manage your time effectively
It is important to set your priorities straight. Make sure that you have enough time to study and get your homework done while working an 8 hour shift the same day. If you have a test the day after a late night of working, make sure that you are taking any free time you have to study up.
Stay focused
Remember which is going to be most important for your future. Yeah, work is going to make you money, but a college degree is going to shape your future. Just make sure that your degree gets the most of your attention and you don’t get carried away with your job.
Relax
Take a deep breath. Don’t overwhelm yourself with both work loads. There is nothing wrong with taking some time out of your busy schedule to hang out with friends or watch the TV show you have been binge-watching on Netflix. Stress is not good for anyone. Just give yourself a break.
