With the new year and decade here, the concept of time has felt more mind boggling than ever before.
For the last turn of the decade, our generation were young kids; just stepping into the teenage years. Now, we’re seniors in high school, students in college, young adults stepping into the real world. It’s weird to think back on how we got here.
When the year turned from 2009 to 2010 it felt like nothing— speaking for myself, my biggest stressor was remembering to write month/day/ TEN every time I’d put the date in the corner of my papers. I have a feeling this new year is going to hit a little different, and a little harder.
That being said, the new year shouldn’t scare us. Even though things get heavier the more into adulthood we go, the more ability we have for new opportunities and experiences should be exciting.
It’s really interesting and crazy trying to look back on the past 10 years, thinking about where the time went, as well as remembering all the moments of the decade we hold near and dear to us. It can be nerve-wracking staring a new year in the face, as we don’t want to let those better, simpler, more comfortable times from the past go just because they’re familiar to us; and because we don’t know what the future holds. But to live our lives in the best way we can, believing in the future without looking back or holding onto the past is what will set us up for a strong start to the new year.
New Year’s is a time of celebration, fun, and excitement; where people finish watching the ball drop and seal their night with a kiss, share/make their resolutions and upcoming goals, and wish the people closest to them a new year full of happiness. Be excited for the new year and the scary unknown and all the new experiences you’ll have within it.
Learn in the new year, listen in the new year, love in the new year. Self-affirmations to remember are wanting to be the best version of yourself, and living a life that you’re proud of. The last decade consisted of taking steps in the right direction. Now is the time to be inspired, and to inspire others. Treat others the way you want to be treated, care about the people and things that are important to you; choose how you want your new year to go. Prioritize what matters to you. What matters to you?
