To My Long Distance BFF

Dear Bestie,

I’m super sorry for not calling you this weekend. I know “I’m busy” seems like a flimsy and B.S. reason not to talk to you, but you would not believe how quickly homework piled up, not to mention applying for jobs, and, oh yeah, I’m still trying to get this whole “providing for yourself” thing down. Also, I know that before we left for college, we promised to call each other at least once a week. Trust me, I feel bad about not carving out time for you, and I realize that you probably feel a little frustrated at the moment, I mean you’re busy too, but you still found a half hour to spare, why can’t I? If you could hear me out for a second, I just want to tell you a couple of things.

  1. Just because we don’t talk doesn’t mean I don’t care.

I have pictures of us up on my wall, it’s literally impossible for me not to think about you on the daily. Despite the miles between us, I still care about every single detail of your life and I want to hear about all of it: your classes, your homework, even what you had for lunch. Just because we don’t have the luxury of communicating like we used to doesn’t mean I let you go, please know that I still love and care for you just as I did when I saw you in English every day.

  1. I’m just a phone call (or a text, or even an email) away.

If you’re having a legitimate issue, please know I’m still always there for you. Please do not hesitate to call or send me a message if you’re feeling way too stressed and you just can’t take these reading assignments anymore.

  1. I’m okay with sharing, I really wish you all the best in making friends.

I love the fact that you still try to make time for me. Seriously, I think it’s great that you still want to keep in touch with me, but please don’t let me hold you back from getting out there and meeting new people. I want to hear about how you grabbed lunch with Sarah and went shopping with Audrey and oh my god you’ll never believe where Lindsay took me. I want to hear that you’re socializing and getting out there, don’t wait around on my phone calls when you could be out living that good ol’ “college experience.”

  1. If I’m not talking to you, I’m probably talking about you.

That came off a lot more rude than I intended, but you know what I mean. If I’m not talking to you, please be assured that I’m telling my friends here about the crazy antics we pulled, and how we stayed up way too late during our sleepovers and about our gossip sessions over coffee at the local café. Trust me, everyone here will know you by name by the end of the semester because I just won’t shut up about you.

  1. I do, and always will cherish our memories, and there’s not a single person that could replace you or the times we shared.

There is not a day that goes by where I haven’t thought about you, and there isn’t a person here who knows me better. You have been with me through it all, and I will never forget that. You’ll always be my number one girl to call, and I really truly honestly miss you more and more each day.

With that being said, I’ll see you on break, and just to let you know, I’ve already started planning your Christmas gift.

Love Always,

Your Bestie
