Candidate Bio – Alexis Blydenburgh

Name: Alexis Blydenburgh

Year/Major(s): Sophomore; Spanish and Dance majors

What campus activities or organizations are you involved in?

I am involved in the Class of 2017 Student Government, Nazareth Dance Organization, Community Service Floor, Conversation Partners, Take Note, Partners for Serving, and Student Ambassadors.

Current UA Position: Secretary

Do you have prior experience as an official?

Yes. Since freshman year in college I have been secretary of the Class of 2017. It is my favorite activity on campus and I have two years of valuable experience in the position.

Position Running For: Secretary

Why are you running for this position?

I am running for the position of secretary for the third year in a row. I love organizing, making lists, and taking notes, so this is the position that I feel fits me the best.

What do you hope to accomplish at this position during the 2015/2016 year?

This year I hope to contribute to a second year of cards for Nazareth College Veterans, a successful junior-senior picnic, and to help increase class participation in our activities.

If you could improve anything on campus, regardless of what it would take, what would it be and why?

I would extend the hours of both the dining hall and the library. As busy college students, sometimes the only time we have to eat or study is after 1:00am, and it would be great to be able to do that outside of our own rooms!

What is your favorite and least favorite thing about college? Explain:

My favorite thing about college is all the activities and opportunities that are available to get involved in. Since I have begun my studies at Naz I have been able to continue dancing, gain leadership positions, and study abroad. My least favorite thing about college is time management. I want to be involved in just about everything on campus but there’s just not enough hours in a day!

Why do you think it’s important for students to participate in the UA or other campus activities?

Participating in clubs and activities is essential to the college experience. It is a great way to meet other students, step outside of your comfort zone, and simply have fun! Especially being at such a small school, I definitely believe that this participation is key to the Golden Flyer experience.

Are there any new initiatives or programs you are looking to introduce?

I would love to introduce regular game night study breaks on campus. I think it would be a fun way to be able to distress during the week, and definitely doable for us to plan! As I said before, I also want to create an initiative to get our class members as aware and involved as possible in our decision making process.

Chinese take out or tacos? Definitely Chinese take out. There is so much to choose from, and who doesn’t want a free fortune cookie?

If you had to be a kitchen utensil, which would you be and why? A spork! They can be used for just about any kind of food, and they aren’t very common, which makes them both useful and unique!

Starbucks or Dunkin, why?

Oh gosh, this is such a hard question! I used to be a Dunkin fan, but moving to Rochester has made me a Starbucks fan because there are so many of them around.

What is your dream job and why?

My dream job would be anything that allowed me to perform and travel around the world! I think it would be absolutely amazing to be a dancer on a cruise ship.
