Candidate Bio – Halle Cook

Name: Halle Cook

Junior, Double Major in Business Administration and Communications and Media

What campus activities or organizations are you involved in?

I am currently one of the senators for the Class of 2016 so I work with the Senate in the UA as well as with the class officers.  I am also an active member of Marketing Club and I work about 15 hrs a week off-campus.

Current UA Position:

Currently a Senator for the Class of 2016

Do you have prior experience as an official?

In High School I was our class secretary all four years.  I was also the secretary of Honor Society for junior and senior year.  Masterminds and Varsity Club were among others groups I was a part of.

Position Running For:

VP of Finance

Why are you running for this position?

Next year I wish to take on more responsibility within the UA.  I look forward to continuing my role as being a voice for the rest of the student body and initiating change so everyone is able to receive the most out of their experience here at Nazareth.

What do you hope to accomplish at this position during the 2015/2016 year?

Next year my main goal within this position is to make sure each club, and anyone utilizing funds within the UA, really understands the process and what is expected/needed to happen for this to work.  This goes along with my second goal which is making the UA, as an organization and system of government, more visible to everyone on campus.  I really want encourage more involvement on campus and I think that starts with open, visible communication between the UA and the student body.

If you could improve anything on campus, regardless of what it would take, what would it be and why?

One thing I would change on campus would be the system of communication between clubs/organizations/administration and the rest of the students.  People hate getting so many emails every day but right now that is the best form of communication we have in getting information out to mass audiences.  I’m excited to work towards coming up with some sort of solution to this problem.

What is your favorite and least favorite thing about college? Explain:

My favorite thing about college is that we have so many opportunities to take advantage of that help us grow into the people we will become.  This could be anything from choosing your major, to making friends, to getting involved, to studying abroad.  Everything we do is somehow shaping our lives for the future and I love being a part of that.

My least favorite thing about college is almost the same as my favorite.  Because this is such a definitive time in our lives, I sometimes worry that I will miss out on something.  I don’t have time I want to dedicate to everything I am interested in.  That’s what led me to get involved with the UA last year and why I encourage others to get involved in something that interests them.

Why do you think it’s important for students to participate in the UA or other campus activities?

The way I see it, the more experiences the better.  Even if we have negative experiences, we can learn from them and move on.  Getting involved in organizations on campus and other activities could lead to developed interests in something you were not expecting.  I also think it’s important to get involved in order to make the most of your time in college.  It doesn’t have to be some crazy 15-30 hr/week commitment, just getting out there, meeting new people, and learning from new experiences.  If you want to make a change or think of something that you want to see improved, the best way to go about facilitating that is to get involved.

Are there any new initiatives or programs you are looking to introduce?

I don’t really have any new programs I’m looking to begin, however I am more than willing to look into things students are interested in.  One thing I am looking to start, or at least increase, is student voice in more administrative groups and committees.  By this I mean form a stronger connection between the students, the faculty, and the stuff/administration.

What song best describes you?

No Scrubs by TLC hands down.  This has been one of my favorite songs ever since I learned the words when I was like 7.  I think it accurately expresses my values 🙂

If you had to pick two celebrities to be your parents, who would they be and why?

I would choose Olive’s parents from Easy A, played by Stanley Tucci and Patricia Clarkson.  I like both of these actors and while my parents don’t resemble them physically, they are funny and supportive just like Olive’s parents.

Which house would you be placed in at Hogwarts?

I go back and forth between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw.  It changes every time I take the Buzzfeed quiz.  But I think overall I would say Ravenclaw because I think I align more with their traits: wit, learning, wisdom.

If I came over to your house for dinner, what would you make for me?

Dinner at my place would probably entail some delicious ravioli and Chex Mix because currently that is the only food I have.  Actually my friend just ate all my Chex Mix so…ravioli it is!!
