Candidate Bio – Kyla Marie Partridge

Name: Kyla Marie Partridge

Year/Major(s): Junior, International Relations and Chinese Major with Economics Minor

What campus activities or organizations are you involved in?

International Club, Diversity Council, Campus Activities Board

Current UA Position: Co-Chair and Senator for Diversity Council, VP of International Club

Position Running For: VP of Executive Operations

Why are you running for this position?

Strengthen relations between students and administration, get more students involved in campus activities, hold clubs and student leaders more accountable and improve campus communication between them

What do you hope to accomplish at this position during the 2015/2016 year?

Same as above, I want to see that students have a memorable experience and have their voices heard on campus.

If you could improve anything on campus, regardless of what it would take, what would it be and why?

I would love to improve student participation in activities on campus. I think our undergraduate association does a great job of putting on exciting events and really great activities, but I am consistently seeing low participation. I would like to see that change.

What is your favorite and least favorite thing about college? Explain:

My favorite thing is learning, I am a total nerd, I know. I love making connections between my courses and learning just for the sake of knowledge. There is not enough time in the semester for me to take all the classes that I am interested in so I audit a lot of classes. My least favorite thing is not having enough time in the day to do everything I want to do. If I could attend every club event on campus I would.

Why do you think it’s important for students to participate in the UA or other campus activities?

I chose to come to a college in the United States so that I could take part in campus activities. Back in Europe we don’t have opportunities like this in university, it is purely academic. I think students don’t realize how lucky they are to have the chance to be involved.

Are there any new initiatives or programs you are looking to introduce?

I think we have a lot of great programs already on campus, we just need to adjust them to better meet the needs of students. Mixers, for example, are something we have had for a long time. We could change those to get greater participation from students. I want to work on improving school spirit and getting more students attending sporting events here on campus as well. I would love to see more initiative on campus for greater recycling programs. Right now, the majority of recycling bins on campus are just used as trash cans.

What is your spirit animal?

A cow, it would definitely be a cow. Most people think cows are really calm and passive creatures. But what a lot of people do not know is that cows are actually very emotionally advanced and develop strong connections with one another. I just really love cows!

How do you feel about “The Dress”

Haha honestly I can see both! I swore the first time I looked at it that it was white and gold. Then after staring at it for a real long time I could see the black and blue. I asked my boyfriend what color he thought it was and he said “brown and light purple.” Hahaha I was like, “that is not even an option!”

What is your dream job and why?

I am not the type of person who can stay in one place for very long, probably because of the way I grew up. My goal is to eventually complete my Masters in International Relations. I can see myself working for the State Department as a foreign service officer and relocating every couple of years. I would love to work in conflict resolution or development in third world countries. I just want to go everywhere and see everything!
