Candidate Bio – Ryan Page

Name: Ryan Page

Year/Major(s): Sophomore Music Business Major

What campus activities or organizations are you involved in?

Fermata Thin Air, UA Senate, RA for Reslife, Finance Committee

Current UA Position: Senator

Do you have prior experience as an official?

I have been a senator four semesters now here at nazareth college but prior to that I had never held a position like it.

Position Running For: Senator (Class of 2017)

Why are you running for this position?

There is a long story for that but as I said in my speech we (the sophomores) are a family and we spend a lot of time trying to increase that vibe to the rest of our class, and we have done a decent job. But not only do we want to keep the sophomores experience as great as ever, we want to expand our family, work with other clubs put on bigger “campus wide” events and just make NAZ feel unified and reach people who maybe don’t know us or the UA yet.

What do you hope to accomplish at this position during the 2015/2016 year?

Along with UA Senate duties, we are all about programming. We try and expand on events that have already done, making them bigger and better than before. I have personally made it my mission to have a charity Dodgeball event and next year we have the honor of putting on the campus dodgeball tournament so I am very excited for that and a few other things that we are going to keep secret for now.

If you could improve anything on campus, regardless of what it would take, what would it be and why?

The Involvement on campus. I hear people talk about NAZ doesn’t have anything to do or talk about leaving on the weekends. Anyone who wants to go home or go off campus on the weekend can that is their prerogative. However this past weekend alone you could have a free catered meal and meet the students whom are helping the undergrads make changes and put on events, There was several cool games and food and prizes and pretty much just fun things at UP All Night, Nazareth Lacrosse won this weekend at its the mens 5th straight, and then Laser Tag came to campus on Sunday. I am missing a ton of lectures and concerts or recitals that happened as well as RA Programs that could have happened and tons of other stuff, but to sum it up I would want to find out why with all that is happening people still say there is nothing to do. After learning that I would of course change it.

What is your favorite and least favorite thing about college? Explain:

My favorite thing about college has to be all the freedom you have to try new things and learn new things both in and outside a classroom. We get to see not just what kind of profession you will enter and what kind of salary you could potentially bring in but also the kind of person you will be someday. The way you will interact with others or the hobbies and interests you will have. My least favorite thing, that is much harder to answer. Furthermore it is probably something trivial like the WIFI speed so it certainly can’t hold a candle to the positive.

Why do you think it’s important for students to participate in the UA or other campus activities?

Sort of what I said above, we are not just painters, accountants, physical therapists, musicians, lawyers, scientists, and teachers. We are not just athletes, student government enthusiasts, classical music aficionados, or honor students. We are a combination of things there can be a Volleyball playing accountant that loves Schubert, or an Honors student in the PT program who likes painting and playing basketball with friends. We are people outside of classes and outside of jobs. Clubs and getting involved in a few different things only makes us better people. Diversity is not just race or gender. A room of all females or all males can have so many variations and combinations and clubs and the UA or other activities including classes and jobs are ways to meet with other people whom are different and unique regardless of how similar they may seem on paper.

Are there any new initiatives or programs you are looking to introduce?

As stated above I want to handle the Dodgeball tournament a little differently and my hope is also to listen to the class. If they want a new program I am more then ready to make it happen to the best of my ability and my fellow officers will probably tell you the same thing.

What is your favorite Netflix show to binge watch?

I love the show Criminal Minds. I watched reruns when I was in middle school and high school and seeing that it is on Netflix was an awesome feeling. When I was young I wanted to be Dr. Spencer Reed but I realized I would have had to be born a genius so I switched my loyalty back to music.

On a scale of Miley Cyrus to Queen Latifah, how suitable are you for this position?

I am probably somewhere in the middle I would say. I am probably a Reese Witherspoon or a Drew Barrymore? My goal by the end of this term should I get re-elected is to reach Latifah qualifications though.

If you had to be stuck in one TV show, which would it be and why?

This is tough I like television almost as much as a movies and music. I personally feel like in all the shows I watch I would likely end up dead, but The Walking Dead just beats out Supernatural, Grimm, and Criminal Minds.

What is your spirit animal?

I wish I could say a tiger or even a liger or bull but in reality I feel the animal I am most closely connected too would be Left Shark. That pretty much sums me up right there.
